Cloud science in New Zealand

The HALO-South expedition: Immersion in a (nearly) untouched atmosphere Between early September and mid-October, the HALO research aircraft took off from Christchurch almost daily to conduct measurement flights out to the open sea and into the clouds. The scientists’ goal on the HALO South mission was to investigate in detail the process of cloud formation […]

German scientists measuring cloud chemistry above Australia and Pacific in flying HALO laboratory

A team of German scientists have been circling the skies above northern Australia and the Pacific Ocean in a high-tech research aircraft studying the atmospheric chemistry occurring above the clouds. The Chemistry of the Atmosphere: Field Experiment (CAFE) team has tracked weather events and taken samples and measurements up to 15 kilometres above sea level.

Atmospheric research down under

Research expedition investigatesphotochemistry and aerosol particleformation in the tropical atmosphere. A trip upside down: Many scientists from the Max PIanckInstitute for Chemistry (MPIC) traveled Down Under inthe first weeks of January and experienced an absolutereversal of temperature and weather conditions. This wasalso the case for Dom Jack, graphic designer and photoreporter at the MPIC, during
