Open and announced calls related to HALO and its missions
Call for new HALO missions
The HALO scientific steering committee (WLA) has decided to open a new call for HALO missions (starting from 2031).
We expect to open the call in October 2026, with a deadline in spring 2027.
Proposals will be discussed in a mission planning workshop, connected to the next SPP Symposium, which is scheduled for 21. – 23. June 2027.

Calls for mission funding
The call for proposals for the HALO DFG SPP 1294 has been published by DFG and can be found under the following link:

Deadline for submitting applications is 27 November 2026.
Rough timetable: The evaluation is planned for spring 2027. In case of positive feedback, funding would be available from early 2028.
Important for applicants with regard to the HALO missions CONIDA-Day and STACCATO:
If you plan to participate in one of these (or both) campaigns, please contact the DFG SPP coordination (Anja Schwarz) and/or the user coordination (Mareike Heckl) who will forward your meassage to the Mission-PI of both campaigns to coordinate the proposal writing and your contribution for the umbrella proposals that have to be submitted by the Mission PI for the campaigns to be funded by DFG.
Calls for workshop funding
The HALO SPP 1294 coordinators call for proposals for HALO-related Topical Workshops. Topical Workshops should be related to completed or planned HALO missions or may focus on a special topic covered by the HALO SPP 1294. Organizational costs (e.g., room, catering) and travel costs of invited guests can be funded in accordance with the applicable laws and guidelines.
Please send your short proposal with information about:
- topic, objectives, respective HALO mission(s);
- tentative place and date of the workshop;
- expected number of participants;
- rough cost estimate
