Better Forecasts of Weather Processes in Winter

Measurement Campaign Coordinated by KIT Set to Explore the Dynamics of Weather Systems over the North Atlantic. Strong winds, heavy precipitation, and cold air outbreaks are high-impact weather events that tend to occur frequently in the cold winter months and can cause exceptional situations even in Germany – as recently experienced when winter storm “Elli” […]

The EarthCARE detectives hit 100 in awe-inspiring global investigation

This was a significant moment in the quest to calibrate and validate data from the satellite’s four trailblazing instruments, which work in synergy to shed light on a major mystery – how clouds and aerosols affect Earth’s climate. The EarthCARE Data, Innovation and Science Cluster produces the algorithms and science products that make EarthCARE data

German scientists measuring cloud chemistry above Australia and Pacific in flying HALO laboratory

A team of German scientists have been circling the skies above northern Australia and the Pacific Ocean in a high-tech research aircraft studying the atmospheric chemistry occurring above the clouds. The Chemistry of the Atmosphere: Field Experiment (CAFE) team has tracked weather events and taken samples and measurements up to 15 kilometres above sea level.

Start of major aircraft measurement campaign in the Australian Pacific

Third and final part of the CAFE research expedition to study photochemistry and aerosol particle formation in the tropical atmosphere. In January and February, the German research aircraft HALO will be flying from Australia to investigate a climate change hotspot on the equator. It is the third part of a large-scale series of expeditions dealing
