Earlier this year, a German team led a research mission over the Pacific Ocean to collect detailed measurements of the atmosphere, in order to better understand the chemistry of climate.
Using a heavily-modified Gulfstream G550 (pictured), the Chemistry of the Atmosphere: Field Experiment (CAFE) team’s CAFE-Pacific mission flew for up to nine hours at a time over the tropics from Cairns, reaching heights of up to 15km above the Pacific Ocean.
