Successful first mission flight for ASCCI mission

Today’s first long mission flight of HALO for the ASCCI mission went well. Landing was approx. 18:41 local and thus almost 9:40 hours flight time practically as planned. No major instrument problems were reported in the de-briefing. We will now continue with three ground days as planned and the transfer to Kiruna as a longer measurement flight

HALO mission integration ongoing

Preparations for the next HALO mission are on the way. During the ASCCI campaign, scientists aim at improving their understanding of: 1. Inter-annual variability of Arctic lower stratospheric ozone depletion and the implications for radiative forcing and surface climate impacts of ozone recovery2. High latitude stratosphere-troposphere exchange and the structure of the high latitude tropopause3.

HALO mission integration for PERCUSION

Integration and preparation for the next HALO mission PERCUSION is ongoing. PERCUSION is planned as a nine-week EarthCARE centered campaign that will focus both on EarthCARE characterization and on studies of deep convection over the tropical Atlantic close to the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) in mid to late summer (between August to October 2024). The objectives of

HALO in Australia for CAFÉ-Pacific mission

HALO is based in Cairns, Australia for the CAFE-Pacific campaign. The main objective of the CAFE missions is to investigate tropical tropospheric oxidant  photochemistry in combination with aerosol particle formation and growth under clean, pristine conditions over land, and contrast the results with those in marine and polluted conditions. The measurements constrain computer models that represent chemical
