GEOHALO was the first dedicated geoscientific HALO mission. The mission goal was to utilize a jet aircraft for aerogravimetry, and was carried out over Italy and the adjacent Tyrrhenian, Adriatic and Ionian seas. The entire Mediterranean, especially the region under investigation, is characterized by a complex tectonic pattern (see Section 3) and, therefore, subject to an increased geohazard. It was an additional goal of GEOHALO to apply airborne gravity and magnetic measurements to enhance the knowledge of the potential fields. Also, these results can be used to provide further constraints for the investigation of the lithospheric structure and plate kinematics.
